Not only in words but with his eyes
he expressed his overpowering
desire for her, a desire so
overpowering, in fact,
as to possess her,
body and soul.
In responding to his words as well
as to his eyes, she let it slip that
one did not capture the wind
nor contain the scent of
wild roses rampant
in far-off fields.
He did his best to grasp her words,
but metaphors and similes were
not his strong points and so
much eluded him, he a man
who could not as much as
feign knowing that day.
And so, as she then ambled off into
the distance, he truly was far from
grasping it, as he would be for
ages yet to come, for such
was the nature of desire,
if not that of reason.
